What Is the LZL-650104 Motorized Zoom Lens?

The LZL-650104 is an industrial motorized zoom lens developed for applications where the imaging magnification needs to be adjusted automatically instead of manually at the lens.

Its 0.7X–4.5X optical magnification range allows the same imaging system to move between a relatively large field of view and higher-magnification detail observation. The lens uses a compact mechanical structure and supports integration with C-Mount machine vision cameras.

Compared with a manual industrial zoom lens, the motorized mechanism is more suitable for automated equipment where zoom positions need to be changed, controlled or repeatedly returned during different inspection processes.

For other magnification ranges and optical configurations, see the machine vision zoom lens series .

Key Features

6.5:1 Optical Zoom Range

The optical magnification can be adjusted from 0.7X to 4.5X. This makes the lens suitable for systems that require both larger-area observation and higher-magnification inspection without replacing the optical assembly.

Motorized Zoom Control

The zoom mechanism uses a DC servo motor with closed-loop control. The control system supports one-axis or two-axis operation through a 9-pin RS-232 interface, allowing the lens to be integrated into automated inspection equipment.

82±2 mm Working Distance

The specified working distance is 82±2 mm, providing a compact optical configuration for benchtop inspection equipment, automated stations and machine vision assemblies.

Designed for C-Mount Machine Vision Cameras

The lens supports image sensors up to 2/3" and uses a standard C-Mount interface. When selecting a camera, the actual field of view depends on both the sensor size and the selected optical magnification.

Camera Compatibility

The LZL-650104 is intended for C-Mount industrial cameras with sensor formats up to 2/3". Camera resolution alone does not determine whether the system will meet an inspection requirement. Sensor size, pixel size, required field of view, optical magnification and the smallest feature to be detected should be evaluated together.

  • C-Mount area scan industrial cameras
  • Sensor sizes up to 2/3"
  • Monochrome or color machine vision cameras
  • Automated inspection equipment
  • Industrial imaging and observation systems

Typical Applications

Semiconductor Inspection

The adjustable magnification range can be used for observation of semiconductor components, chips and other small features where the operator or automated system needs to switch between overview imaging and detailed inspection.

Electronics and PCB Inspection

The lens can be used for industrial imaging of PCB assemblies, electronic components, connectors and other precision parts in inspection and observation stations.

Automation Vision

Motorized zoom control is especially useful when an automated machine needs to change magnification according to different products, inspection positions or process steps.

Precision Part Observation

The compact C-Mount configuration makes the lens suitable for visual observation, positioning and inspection of precision mechanical parts where multiple magnifications are required.

How to Select the Right Zoom Lens

To confirm whether the LZL-650104 is suitable for your application, provide the following information when requesting an optical configuration:

  1. Camera model or sensor size – for example 1/2", 2/3" or another sensor format.
  2. Required field of view – the area that must be visible in one image.
  3. Working distance – the available distance between the lens and the inspected object.
  4. Smallest feature to inspect – such as an edge, scratch, gap, mark or component detail.
  5. Accuracy or resolution requirement – especially for measurement-oriented applications.
  6. Control requirement – confirm whether the zoom needs to be adjusted automatically by the equipment.
For faster lens selection: send us your camera model, required FOV, working distance and the smallest feature you need to inspect. These four parameters are usually enough for an initial optical evaluation.

When This Lens May Not Be the Best Choice

A motorized continuous zoom lens is useful when adjustable magnification and automatic control are the main requirements. However, another optical configuration may be more suitable in the following situations.

  • Applications requiring strict dimensional measurement with minimal perspective error.
  • Applications where magnification must remain highly stable despite object height variation.
  • Large-field precision measurement where telecentric imaging is required.
  • Applications using a sensor larger than the specified 2/3" maximum format.

For dimensional measurement, positioning and applications where telecentric imaging is more important than variable magnification, consider a C-Mount telecentric lens instead.
