A flash measuring machine (also called an instant vision measuring system or one-click image dimension measurement system) is an optical instrument that measures multiple part dimensions — length, width, diameter, angle, radius, distance and position — in a single capture, then outputs a QC report with one click. Unlike manual calipers or profile projectors, it captures the whole field of view at once, so a part with dozens of features is measured in seconds instead of minutes.
A flash measuring machine combines four subsystems:
The operator places the part on the stage, selects or loads the measurement program, and presses one key. The system measures all programmed features and generates the report — no manual feature-by-feature alignment.
| Aspect | Flash Measuring Machine | Manual Tools (caliper / projector) |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement time | All features in one capture, seconds per part | Feature by feature, minutes per part |
| Operator dependency | Low — program-driven, repeatable | High — results vary by operator |
| Report output | One-click QC report (AI-Image software) | Manual transcription |
| Delicate parts | Non-contact, safe for thin/soft/precision parts | Contact risk |
| Batch inspection | Program once, run repeatedly | Not practical at scale |
Flash measuring machines are widely used for: electronics and connector inspection, PCB and circuit board measurement, mobile phone glass inspection, hardware and stamped parts, plastic and injection-molded parts, automotive components, and general batch QC with report output.
The POMEAS IMAGE 3 series includes six configurations — IMAGE 3, IMAGE 3 PLUS, IMAGE 3 PRO, IMAGE 3 PRO-H, IMAGE 3 MAX and IMAGE 3 MAX2 — covering different measuring ranges, camera options, accuracy grades and height measurement needs.
A flash measuring machine is an optical instrument that measures all programmed part dimensions in a single image capture and outputs a QC report with one click. It is also called an instant vision measuring system or one-click image dimension measurement system.
A part with dozens of features is typically measured in seconds, because all features are captured in one image instead of being probed one by one. Exact cycle time depends on part complexity and program.
A flash measuring machine captures the full field of view at once for speed on smaller parts; a traditional VMM moves the stage and stitches multiple fields for larger parts. For small-to-medium precision parts in batch QC, flash measurement is faster.
Standard configurations measure 2D dimensions. Height measurement requires an added sensor — for example, the POMEAS IMAGE 3 MAX supports an optional 8055 point spectral confocal sensor.
Electronics, connectors, PCB, mobile phone glass, hardware and stamping, plastics, automotive components — any batch QC workflow that needs fast, repeatable, documented dimension inspection.
